it's done!!!

our kitchen remodel is finally done!!! well, actually, it's been done for a almost a month, but i'm just now getting around to posting it! our house was built in three different stages...the first part, which is the front room, kitchen and middle bathroom, were built in 1928...rooms have been moved around and walls taken down by previous owners...the back two rooms were added on in 1947...then our living room and master bedroom were added in '97...this is a picture as you walk into the house before the kitchen was done... a long time ago, this room used to be two rooms, but for us, it was this really long unusual space that separated the kitchen from the living room...we never were in this room, it was basically a hallway...the door goes into the kitchen, which we normally left open...
my red little kitchen...i had always wanted a red kitchen, and i loved it, but it was time for a change! this fridge was so old that one time i tried to get a replacement seal for the edges, and lowe's couldn't even find it in existence!
that door leads to our middle bathroom...and the pantry to the right, my sister and i built since we were limited on our cabinet space...
this is our really old stove and formica counter tops...in our goal of the remodel, we wanted to tear out half of this wall and open it up into the other room...but we were worried about losing even more cabinet space (which i will show how we resolved in a later picture)...
and the demo begins...

we found this cool, old brick under the drywall, which i wanted to expose, but it was all crumbling and in really bad shape...
a couple of weeks later...these are the cabinets we had added, and then we planned on adding a bar top to it

the color of the cabinets is kind of like a slate blue...i love my new cabinets!!!

another couple of weeks...new appliances and counter tops! brutus checking it out

almost there!

FINALLY!
the finished product...it took about two months, but we were never without use of the kitchen except for two days!

only one column now!

i love how open it feels now...we didn't add any square footage to the kitchen, but it feels so much bigger!

we moved the old door that used to separate the kitchen and the front room to the back of the kitchen...mccoy's room is back there, so it was nice to block out some of the noise at night...

a view from the kitchen...

our new sitting area, aka mccoy's playroom...

summer time in the spa city

two weekends ago, we headed down to hot springs...my parents' house has this wonderful wrap around porch, so mccoy strolled out in his walker...he literally ran around in circles and circles and circles...thank goodness for my parents since they were the ones keeping up with him...it's so nice to be able to take a break while they enjoy him so much!
playing with blocks...
my grandfather used to make so many wonderful things out of wood, but he would always have left over scraps...so, one year when my cousin, brother, sister and i were younger, he sanded down all the scraps and stained them...those blocks were the best thing to play with while growing up...now, i'm so excited that mccoy is going to be able to have the same great memories!
next, he found the pantry with gracie and the dogs...oh, what wonderful cabinets with so many choices!
that saturday morning, we headed to the hot springs farmer's market...mccoy was trying to help out and sell lots of tomatoes...it was too cute...the little girl was helping her grandmother work the stand, but she kept grabbing handfuls of the small tomatoes and stomping them on the ground...no touchy!
we ran over to great grandmother emily's house...mccoy loved all of his laptime!
then we headed out in the boat for a quick swim...at this point, we were sitting in the dock, and i do make him wear his life jacket on the water!
a little young to be practicing, but one day, he will have to take over for mom...
lake time!

sweet daddy

mccoy loves his blocks and showing grandaddy how to stack them

such fun times!!!

my big day

the forth of july is always a fun holiday, but it also happens to be my birthday...and this year was the big 3-0...mccoy enjoying in the festivities since mccoy's birthday party was just the previous week and was held at our house, we decided to just have another party...and since i hadn't taken anything down from his party, i just covered his name with mine :)

i love this picture of mccoy and his sock monkeys, so burt and i decided that i needed one too!

my sweet, sweet husband (who took of me and mccoy the next morning) made
me feel so special on my birthday! i am definitely where i am supposed to be in life...i am so fortunate to have such a wonderful loving husband, who would bend over backward to make mccoy and i happy...and then on top of that, we were blessed with our precious little boy...this birthday was truly the best, and i know it's only going to get better!

boat ride

over the fourth of july weekend, burt, mccoy and i headed to his parent's place on beaver lake...this is mccoy's first official boat ride and dip in the lake...a ride in the rhino to get to the lake...mccoy loves this thing... in the driver seat...ready to take charge...
not sure about the life jacket though...i remember hating life jackets when i was younger...
still not sure about it...
starting to get his sea legs...he loved standing at the front of the boat and watching the water...
we're happy now!
now, it's swimming time...he giggled so much in the water...unfortunately, burt forgot to get a life jacket, and i was too busy taking pictures to notice...when he got out, burt was totally exhausted from treading water for so long...

when we got back home, the boys were so worn out...

next post...my 30th birthday party...yay yay!
